Area Beaches Take a Battering from Recent Storm
Why does it feel like it rained every weekend so far this year? Peruse this great article from the SandPaper and read about beach erosion and planned replenishment.
“Beaches up and down the Island took a beating on Jan. 9 as a storm rolled through the Southern Ocean County area. Parts of Long Beach Boulevard from Ship Bottom to Beach Haven were impassable due to tidal flooding.” Read more.

Iconic Jersey Devil Statue Stolen
A carved wooden iconic Jersey Devil statue was stolen Friday night from Lucille’s Luncheonette off Route 539, according to the owners. What appears in security camera footage to be an SUV towing a trailer with a Jeep pulls up to the statue and removes it, according to the footage shared by the owners on Facebook…Continue reading
I can’t stop thinking about the poor whales
Here’s a great article I found posted on Breitbart.com. While extensive, it is definitely worth reading. For years, Jersey shore leaders — mayors, fishermen, local councilmen, and lawmakers — have objected to the plans on the grounds that building the massive turbines necessary to generate energy could destroy critical fishing grounds. Now, bloated, decomposed whale carcasses floating onto boardwalk-lined beaches that families frequent, even in winter, to eat funnel cakes and play crane game machines are becoming a routine event, distressing locals who fear the shore may not be there for their children if the wind projects go forward…Continue reading
The Winter that Wasn’t
Every year I make a wish for no snow but now that we’re ALMOST in the clear, I would like to see ONE good snowfall! How about you? Snow or no snow? “Snow Has Been AWOL in South Jersey” Watching the nightly news this winter, it has been common to see footage of major winter snowstorms paralyzing various parts of the country. Even parts of perpetually-sunny southern California haven’t been spared from blizzard conditions…. Continue reading
9th whale to wash up on the Jersey Shore
Update on last month’s whale story. Sadly we’re seeing more and more whales washing up on our beaches. While we appreciate our local mayors for addressing this problem, more needs to be done. New Jersey already has more than half a dozen different whale species, including the Humpback, on their wildlife protection list. Locals are coming together to question whether the offshore wind farms are responsible for the unusually high number of dead whales washing ashore. A rally by the group Protect Our Coast-NJ is planned for Sunday, February 19th at 1 pm in front of Jenkinson’s Aquarium on the Point Pleasant boardwalk… Continue reading

Local and state police responded to a call about hunters on an ocean beach in Barnegat Light last Saturday morning after a number of people saw a handful of men shooting ducks near a manmade pond south of the inlet. Long Beach Township police and N.J. conservation officers spoke with the hunters at the site, and the men later departed the area with the waterfowl they had shot…. Continue reading
